"To say I’m the person I am today because of Holy Spirit School is an understatement. I truly believe a lot of my accomplishments in high school were due to the fact that I had learned so much at Holy Spirit. Not only knowledge, but I had learned morals and values that still carry me even where I am today, in college. Responsibility, leadership, loyalty, remaining humble, kindness, and so much more. In fact, all of these traits were taught by people I looked up to and admired. Those people would be my parents and family, of course, but family is a varied term and in my case, I had a Holy Spirit family. They were students, faculty, principles, and teachers who had spiritually and academically guided me. I loved school at Holy Spirit and looked forward to it every day.
Entering into high school was a little nervous and stressful for me. I had only participated in a few sports and was close with a handful of people, but that first day kicked off everything for me. I joined five clubs that year and joined two sports. I made a lot of friends and excelled in classes. I was known as a quiet, shy, but very nice “Church girl”. For the record, this is a good thing, a great thing actually. So what happened on that first day? I left a good impression on my teachers, my peers, and faculty.
I became very involved in volunteering, any leadership opportunities possible, community theater, and sports. Being kind and humble led to winning Prom Queen, MVP in tennis, and in my senior year I received many scholarships and was considered for a full ride to Michigan State University. I was extremely blessed and fortunate to say the least. If I sound like an exception at this point, then you’re wrong. The students I grew up with at Holy Spirit School excelled as much I did. In fact, 4 out of the 5 of us were in the top 15 of our class. Other students who didn’t graduate in my class at Holy Spirit, but were with me for a long time there include, and I’m sure you’ve read their names in the paper before, Taylor and Garrett Bonetti.
My spiritual foundation and belief in hope couldn’t have been so strong without Holy Spirit School. As lucky as I’ve been, I’ve also faced some of the hardest times of my life, and having learned to leave things in God’s hands has left me with a positive perspective in tough times. As I’m currently attending Michigan Tech for Environmental Engineering, moral decisions, perseverance, and a strong faith have kept me sane and doing very well.
I’m incredibly thankful to have attended Holy Spirit. I would not be where I am today without having gone there. For a small school, they really offered so many opportunities, and I’m incredibly grateful."
